Gould didn't like this concerto very much.

Did you know that Michelangeli was programmed for this performance and Gould came in on the last minute becaus Arturo never showed up? It was done without any rehersal.

Somebody needs to break the news to him that when his left hand is not playing he is NOT the conductor.

Just to add another thought... when I listen to a performer who "interprets" a composition, I often think "gosh, he or she is so sensitive, that long dramatic pause was so emotional, etc..." But when I listen to one of Gould's "non-interpretive" performances, I think "Gosh, Beethoven (or whoever) really could put a bunch of phrases together to create a magnificent work."

I think this was Gould's experiment where he wanted to try the Emperor Concerto with a constant tempo throughout -- without the usual speeding up and slowing down and long dramatic pauses at the emotional moments which most pianists like ... so it may come across as somewhat mechanical. Personally, I like it this way! But that's just me.

And you act as a trained idiot when giving your opinion

Gould acts like a trained chimp in this performance

I was never too great a fan of Glenn Gould. He just looks and sounds a little too constricted to me when he plays. He's very musical, but... Just giving my opinion; I understand that a lot of people love Gould's playing, and I won't trample their opinions as long as they do me the same favor.

yes one feels how he loves the music he plays.
