Swing Out Sister is a British sophisti-pop musical group best known worldwide for their 1987 song "Breakout", which was their only song to reach the US top 10. Various listeners have classified their sound as everything from smooth jazz to cool jazz to acid jazz. The group was formed by Andy Connell (keyboards) and Martin Jackson (drums), and were later joined by Corinne Drewery (vocals) In late 1986, the single "Breakout" was released. It reached the number three position on the UK charts, and number six in the United States. Consequently, when they released their debut album, "it's better to travel", on May 11, 1987, it reached number one on the UK album charts. The album registered with listeners for its mix of jazz and electropop, with a blend of real horns, synths (arranged subtly, to sound like strings), drums, and xylophones, scored by producer/arranger Richard Niles. The follow-up single to the effervescent "Breakout" was the brooding "Surrender", which featured a trumpet solo performed by John Thirkell. It rose to number seven on the UK charts in January 1987. The next single was the more serious and jazzy "Twilight World". This song was the subject of many remixes and was a dance club favourite worldwide. The final single "Fooled By a Smile" returned to the upbeat pop orientation characteristic of "Breakout".

Daytripzip, that is funny. My sister looks exactly like her. LMFAO. True story, bud. I'd send pics to prove it, but that would get really weird for everyone since no one knows each other. Peace

I used to have a girlfriend that looks like Corinne Drewery. It is impossible to watch this video without thinking of her.

Una de las mejores melodías baibables de la historia, además, sensual a tope. Saludos.

This song was big when I was stationed overseas in Okinawa, Japan back in 1987. Great song. Very big dance hit.

I grew up in the 80's and as a musician I couldn't stand most of the tune-hits that were put out because it was too overly synthesized, but when this song came out, along with the horns, the beat, and stlyle structure I then stopped dead on my tracks and just loved it! This was and still is a great tune! I also fell for the singer's style, looks, and classy performance! I've been looking so long for this tune and I'm glad I found it! It just makes me wanna dance and I'm not a dancer! WOW!

I remember them playing this at the skating rink back in like 89. Those were some good times.

I used to love this song!!! The video was cute too. Everytime I would hear this song, it would put me in a kind of an emotional but up mood. It's hard to explain. I used to love her bob haircut. This song was always such a drastic contrast to their regular sound. Much more pop-like. What memories!
