Help, Kessel fans! I got a notice from YouTube telling me that the clip I posted of Kessel playing "Like Someone In Love" has been taken down due to a complaint from Bourne Co. I can't figure out why. Bourne Co. won't respond to e-mails I've sent them, and I don't know who to talk to at YouTube (if there's anyone to talk to). What is odd is that there are at least 15 other versions of "Like Someone In Love" on YouTube at this moment. Any advice? The can't own the rights to the Canadian broadcast

Kessel rules!
This is one of my favorite songs.
Check the fantastic version of Hank Mobley with Lee Morgan (Trumpet) from album Dippin'(Blue Note).
It makes me cry, always.

to keep it straightforward is really to betray the art of great jazz ensemble work.we use the standards for their great changes and harmonic spaces, not to "cover" the song-which is ok too- but GREAT music comes from working with the chords and letting them breathe new music into your soul.barney understood that,as did HR and J Hall still does.not to mention Miles Davis. He made history by reinventing round midnight.i can't count how many stellar compositions came from the "rhythm" changes.

Interesting. Thanks.

It is wrong! Luiz Antonio wrote all the songs and his partners wrote the lyrics.

The sheet music I have for it says words by Luiz Antonio; music by Djalma Ferreira.

The man who wrote this song Luiz Antonio(with Djalma Ferreira) was colonel of Brazilian Army and one of the great composers of Brazil. He also wrote immortal classics as "Menina Moca", "Poema do Adeus", "Mulher de Trinta", "Barracao", "Devaneios" and many other classics.

i disagree. when you play a tune, you should make it yours from start to end. that includes the head.
however, i agree that the head should be recognizeable.

Having a great tune and doing nothing with it is like having a beautiful girl and not talking with her. |
