I love Def Leppard and even modern Def Leppard but the old stuff is unbeatable. If they still would of released this stuff their whole career they would get the respect bands like AC/DC or the Crue get. Even though Def Leppard blow both of them out of the water. I do love Hysteria though. But High and Dry was badass. They were unique then, I don't call it metal, just hard rock. It rules.

I like this because you can hear how Def Leppards songwriting had progressed and evolved from the first album. They weren't just stringing riffs together anymore but creating feel with tension and release, maintaining interest with thematic variation, incorporating dynamic contrasts of soft/loud and eliminating superfluous build-ups between changes; also they blew the producer. |
