AP will not tolerate NTs bullying harassing or threatening autistic people. This makes uses of other images under fair use of the copyright law. If you do not like this. tough. Deal with it** if Marty was talking about herself in that essay, I would never have had a problem with it. If Graham stopped erasing messages on his video from autistic people, I wouldn't have a problem with it and my video wouldn't be necessary. I don't want my child to be described as almost worse than death. That is very dangerous language with historical connotations to it. It wasn't too long ago when people like my son and others were put into gas chambers and killed, and it all started with a propaganda campaign written just like Marty's essay (see my video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v... I'm not claiming that is Marty's intention, but she should be sensitive to the history. Marty should know this history, she's Jewish. I love my child with all my heart and I'm not the type to be able to handle the very "personal" kind of attack that essay represented for me. Marty has had years to apologize for people she hurt with that essay but she still hasn't done it. If Graham hadn't promoted the one side of Marty, putting her up on that pedestal and then silencing autistic people trying to voice an opinion on how she has hurt us, my video would never have been made. I think it is insensitive of him to not allow us our voice on the matter. He leaves up comments calling us vile, ignorant and insane (the last I checked), but when we post a strong opinion, borne out of the mouths of people saying exactly what Marty writes, he erases them. My son has Kanner (classic) Autism. He has different challenges than I did as a child. He's also a gentle soul. I love him so much sometimes I just look at him and emotion pours over me like a waterfall (I can literally feel it course through my body) and I erupt in tears, not from sadness, but for fear for him and what lies ahead and my helplessness in always being there to protect him. I don't want him to ever have to read essay's like Marty's. I know of some of the things he will encounter, much like I did, and that is why it sometimes hurts me so much. It is at these moments that I come across a video promoting a someone who has caused so much pain in our community and the insensitive and sensationalist words she has used to describe us and I erupt. I'm there with my sword up and my child behind me. I'm a man, not perfect by any means. I'm sometimes a "blunt instrument" in explaining my views, that's part of me. I'm also a fiercely loyal and devoted father and husband. I felt our "home" was being attacked and I'm merely defending it. Giving a voice of dissent out there in a world that is too unkind to our children. I ain't no diplomat. Others are better at that than I am. - CS Marty Murphy's screed can be read here: http://www.asohalton.org/My%20... In 2004, Autistic people and their NT allies started a petition against Marty's essay which can be found here: http://www.isn.net/~jypsy/AuSp... Both so called "high functioning" and "low functioning" autistic people signed the petition. Marty chose to ignore us, much like the rest of society. The petition stated the following: "We find these statements to be dangerous, sensationalist and false. We believe these statements demean and devalue the lives of all autistics. These statements resonate with similar historical efforts to incite fear and hatred against identifiable groups of people, with the goal of restricting then eliminating the existence of these people." Unfortunately, Ms. Murphy has decided she needs a wider audience and has convinced a film maker that she is a good representative of autistic people. Part 2 will follow the silence of Ms. Murphy to this petition and her recent response. I would like to thank Markboler for his words which inspired the theme to this video. I don't know Mark, but I appreciate his sentiments on Ms. Murphy which were deleted from Graham Streeter's video but screen captured and placed near the end of my video. http://ani.autistics.org/autre...

This is a fantastic video. I totally understand the analogy with slavery. Anybody in this world who is of low status (and we are all lower status excluding the small handful of elite) and can not or will not hide behind the herd is met with constant belittling, discrimination, bullying and ignorance. Is there any wonder a condition in which telling the truth and being true to oneself is pathological is considered such a threat? The black movement is an inspiration for all. We shall overcome!

I think your comparison of autistics to slaves is a bit extreme. My 11 year old son is also autistic. Of course, we live in Finland where social services truly exist. My son, who is verbal, has been taught sign language in school and receives other thearpies as well, including horseback riding lessons. Instead of lashing out at Marty Murphy perhaps you better use your energies confronting your governement. Godd time for it now, as it is an election year. Btw, I am also a Yankee.

Social development and general interaction is what helps build your personality! What if the lack of it helped you to be the person that you currently are? It's also very immature to say "All the bad things will go away but the good things will stay if you got rid of your autism"! EVERYONE has something painful about their lives but they still live on. If there was no pain, what would be the point of life? I know this is just your opinion but that is my opinion.

How does one remove something that is thoroughly penetrating or permeating. Autism is more than the social skills issues or the communication issues. Autism is how I categorize and process information. The brain science is fully supportive of this point. Larger brain hemispheres, improper sized corpus callosum to support the larger hemispheres, and more compacted and reduced numbers of neuron in the Amygdala region of the brain.

Definition: Autism is a Pervasive Developmental Difference Definition: Pervasive means thoroughly penetrating or permeating.

If you don't think you can stand against the prejudices of society with the radical rhetoric seen here then please either stand with the non-violent social change movement or keep quiet but whatever you do don't sell your soul to the opposition like Marty has done.

The problem comes in the fact that we are walking down a very similar path depicted by these videos. I see Christschool, and he even considers himself, to be more like Malcolm X whereas I am more like MLK. The point is that they both had their place in the civil rights movement. So to do those that marched with them.

Are YOU Autism or are you a person who HAS Autism? I think people with Autism think "finding a cure" and "being cured" is that they think they'd be a different person if their Autism was taken away. It isn't your personality or your soul that would be taken away. I'd be the painful shyness, the meltdowns, the tactile issues, etc. So the good things would be left in place and the painful things would be taken away. If your Autism was taken away, you'd still be you.

It is not about autistic pride but about facilitating the changes our children need. Example: It has taken me a full year to get it into the heads of the NT teachers in his school that I want my non-verbal son taught sign language and it wouldn't be happening now if there wasn't a deaf child in his class and they are all having to sign to her.
