Pluto is extremely small. You must realize that the main point of a telescope is not to magnify, rather to gather more light that you can see. If you had eyes that were really good with light, you could see all of Andromeda galaxy. It would appear with no magnification, seven times the apparent size of the moon. These objects are huge. You simply can't see them that well because your eye is not sensitive enough.
