if you dont want to buy one of them machines you can take your case and your design you want to your local sign writer he will put the design on and will get it perfect and he "should" have all of the machines for vinyl work

Rather than etch you might take new plexi and you can have someone with a vinyl cutter cut your etch pattern in an etched glass vinyl, same stuff they use on office and store windows that have a look of etched glass but they couldnt possibly etch the glass due to their lease. It's UV and heat resistant too (to take the sun in a window) so the heat of the machine isnt a problem for the vinyl or the adhesive of the vinyl - and it's compatible with plexiglass as much as glass.
