As I sit here and hold back tears.....I had a friend who lied about everything in his life...and I am back at the beginning of the song...again....I love you,Jackson......"While the ships bearing their dreams sail out of sight"....30 years ago ...nothing has changed but, my age....

It's amazing to read all the comments of how this song touched so many people's lives. This was my theme song for years until I met my current wife, then I fulfilled the last verse, and now as the housing market dies a slow and painful death and tries to take my business with it, I find myself reliving the rest of the song; how ironic is that? It's hard to believe a song from 30+ years ago has encapsulated my entire life. Anyway, thanks JB, and I hope I can come back as you did.

This is one of the greatest songs of all time. The Pretender is in every human being at one time or another. ..."thought true love could have been a contender". Peace.

what the song means (at least to me) is having your long life dream so so close to coming true and having it gone in a heartbeat
LibbyLaMano (November 30, 1999 at 12:00 am)
What exactly does that mean
??

God bless you brother, I know exactly how you feel. I'm 62, and coming off my 3rd divorce, but regarless, the song is one of the finest ever written, and has always made me misty |
