In one scene, I see a ball hit above the sweet spot or the racket's center of gravity, and the racket opened up. Did he also do that on purpose? Or, isnt it that he himself can't accurately control which part of the racket face will the ball land?

He does that on purpose, as it is actually, for the most topspin, best to hit the ball below the sweet spot which helps close the racquet face and for the best slice, above the sweet spot.
