I also think early SG sounds like blatant skin yard ripoff but not as dynamic. And yes i know they shared members

Sg'slater stuff tainted their already iffy early records. Sellout or not i think their music is weak, masturbatory, and insignicant in light of other groundbreakers. Flipper and Swans are good examples of pre-deep six non-seattle proto grunge.

Although you seem condescending, I actually do like checking out something I may have missed. The Deep Six era is quite interesting. Wish there was more of that CD available on here.
So what's your story? You mentioned Punk influences while disregarding SG's contribution to "Grunge". You one of those who think SG and anyone else going major was a sellout?
Personally I don't get the whole "I hate being popular" routine. Then there was the heroin, what part of smack kills you?

Yes, you didn't mention Flipper's Album - Generic Flipper(1982)

Yes, you didn't mention Soundgardens three tunes on Deep Six in '86. Grunge-'86, a combo of punk/metal influenced by post punk Brit rockers Gang of Four & Bauuhaus.
Soundgarden was the first of the Seattle Deep Six to go major in '89. Nirvana and Pearl Jam's success in the early 90's gave rise to SG and the musical movement.
silverchair's frogstomp was '95 and in my mind, right in the thick of it. I would hardly call siverchair post grunge, rather an intrinsic part of it.

Grunge--Deep Six Kompilation Invented the sound 1986... C/Z Records...Melvins. Malfunksun. Green River. Skin Yard. The U Men.

his lyrics are very literal

No need to apologize, I'm sure many Nirvana fans will probably agree with you. They definately had more commercial success.
Seattle is given credit for Grunge, Detroit-Motown, Blues-Mississipi... it's much more complicated than all that.
silverchair, like all artist's, is influenced by the era they're in. But I'd like to think talent transcends the latest fad. Or at least elevates it. To say silverchair's success is reliant on Nirvana's success is poo poo. It's all good!

only thing i hate at silverchair is that almost evrything has as mainline : death.... |
