The high speed wobbling edge is really scary!!! A classmate once told me that his friend experienced a DVD explosion during a LAN party. DVD drive was completely ruined! Luckily nobody got hit by the fragments which were all kept inside the drive. The outer edge of the CD on this vid had a speed of 351 miles per hour at 25'000 RPM!!!

But the CD isn't clamped down tight in a CD drive. It could have been off centre in their experiments. A normal PC drive will always centre the CD due to the cone shape. Try again Mythbusters!

Yeah, just like your PC, the one you used to post that comment can explode. That is, if you overclock the CPU enough, if you're unlucky. however, leave stuff alone and work well within the safe limits (52x is very safe, it's been used for many many years with no problems)

to avoid this happening, just don't burn or run disc at 52x....plain and simple

regardless, its fact that the CD can still potentially explode in the disc tray...Cuz i've actually seen it happen before with my own eyes back in high school.

This is something I always hated about myth busters, they always rigged their shit to cause what they wanted to happen, not what really happens. They never properly tested any of their "myths"
