His technique is great, and he's built like a bulldozer. absolutely rock solid in the strength elements

Um, the reason Yuri cannot go to the olympics is because the team from the Netherlands placed 20th. Therefore, as a team, they did not qualify for the olympics. However, they were allowed to send one gymnast to the games, and they're sending their best all-arounder, Epke Zonderland. There is a lot more technicality to it, but that is about as simple as I can make it.

The reason is that as far as qualifying for the Olympics, gymnastics is still an all-around sport. They only give spots to the gold medalists on each event at world championships. There is a wild-card spot and I would say that it will be between Yuri and Pegan.
It's unfortunate that many world class athletes won't be going, hopefully FIG will allow more spots for top event specialists in the future.

I saw this on T.V. and they said he won't qualify for the olympics because he only got silver. Do you know why this is? I'm sure there's some logic to this but it seems crazy to me - not to mention the dissappointment for Yuri knowing he could easily take a medal.
Thanks for the post. |
