the audience is typical of this type of film...first of all the director did not know how to direct audience reaction to this type of song,remember rock and roll was still considered race music, so with that being said the audience is only doing what they are being directed...they may very well want to jump on stage and hug him,but not in the fifties.

What makes you say they're racist? Just because they aren't crowd-surfing or throwing roses on stage? This obviously takes place at a nicer restaurant/club and they're sitting back and letting this man do what he does best. The clapping at the end also disproves your statement. If they were racist or haters at all they would have either booed him or stayed completely silent.
