What is Transcendental Meditation?

Hello super smart folks that like to read. ;) OK, I left a few things out of that video that I'll say here. One thing that people seem to have a problem with is the fact that it costs $2,500US to learn TM. I personally don't have a problem with that price seeing how people spend many people spend much more than that on "stupid" things all the time (beer, smoking, drugs, cars, electro gadgets, etc.) Also, it appears that you also get check up done throughout the year to make sure things are coming along OK. AND David Lynch has an organization that provides scholarships to people that would like to learn the technique, but can't afford it (like me! :D) It's thanks to David Lynch and his org, that I learned it. His website is here: http://www.davidlynchfoundatio... I never heard of Mr. Lynch until visiting the school in January, but seeing him live was awesome. He's a VERY cool guy. I have mad respect for him. Here's the visitor weekend "this past weekend": http://www.lynchweekend.org/ Something else "controversial" that I found in my internet searching is some guy that seems to have very negative feelings about TM (I won't provide a link, but you shouldn't have trouble finding it if you looked) saying that TM is the same as being hypnotized and the only reason people experience the things they do is because their teachers tells them "You might experience XYZ." I can understand why someone might think that's the case (depending on how their experience learning it went) but I personally experienced things BEFORE being told "You should experience XYZ," so I know that isn't the case. Here go some links so you can do some more reading of your own. TM dot org (the official site): http://tm.org/ Maharishi University of Management: http://www.mum.edu/ I'm including the link to this school because I personally think this school is doing things more right than any other school I've visited. I personally think most people are BRAINWASHED into thinking traditional schools are awesome. The traditional model for learning SUCKS! The traditional model for living SUCKS! But that's a different rant for a different day. :) TM on Wikipedia: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/T... I think Wikipedia is an excellent place to start with internet searches. Don't ONLY get information from there, but it's an excellent sources of search terms. The "middle ground" site: http://www.trancenet.org/ I put two and two together while I was at the university and figured there must be "off shoots" stemming from people that learned the original TM technique. My investigation upon getting home showed that my gut feelings were correct. My experience with learning TM was an awesome one and I would recommend it to others. Some people are going to be "turned off" by all the Indian stuffs and... well, that's cool too. :) I hope I've provided enough information to bring clarity and understanding about TM. I think it's cool and would personally recommend TM to anyone. When I attended the first visitor weekend at MUM I paid $10US and got a hotel room, food for the weekend, a Broadway style show and had an awesome time. I paid a total of... $70 (I think, to register for the school and for the visitor weekend) for this past weekend's event and got a scholarship to learn TM, saw David Lynch speak live, saw Moby preform live, food and hotel room paid for, met some cool people and had a really awesome time. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. :)

I also think Maharishi University of Management is a special place. Sounds like you are glad you learned the Transcendental Meditation technique. I also have been happy with my practice; Ive been practicing for 36 years now. The main thing is how you feel during the day, how regular practice helps you think clearly and be healthy. You have added something great to your life, and it was fun to view your video David Orme-Johnson has a good site on TM.

Just a heads up to anyone who thinks the TM mantra is a meaningless sound - it isn't. You are being lied to if the TM org. is telling you that. They also lie if they say your mantra is unique - it isn't. The mantras are names of Hindu gods and they use a just a handful of them. Save your money and learn The Relaxation Response from the book of that title written by Herbert Benson if you want the same result as TM. The TMO is a money grubbing organization that will suck your wallet dry.

Ok thanks man, it was kinda bugging me :)

You're just suppose to do it "in your own time." It's not suppose to match the breath or anything (if it does that's OK too). You just do it at a regular pace and let whatever happens happen.

Hey nice vid, I learned TM a while ago but cant decide where to say my mantra, ie; on the in-breath, on the out-breath or just in my own time... if you dont mind me asking, where are we supposed to say it?

"Do you really believe in levitation??" I'll be believe it when I see it. ;) I never said anything about having pains in my head. And I've tried a number of different meditation techniques and this is the one I've enjoyed the most so far. Perhaps you could give me an example (name) of some other mediation techniques that are similar to TM. I believe I've already found one and I posted the link on the side. I know some people haven't been happy with their TM experience, but I have. :)

I have provided you with all that you will learn in a TM course except for the reinforcement or conditioning techniques.
