You wont find a disagreement with me there. Ive seen many country guitarists and Im always impressed with them. Even in smaller lesser known local bands that Ive seen. I have a tele by the way and love it.

oh yeah...I was one of those young rock guys that got wasted by an older country guy.

Actually Dime was a big fan of country music. He didnt have the chops to play it very well and even commented on his lack of muscle control to be a country player.
The most technically advanced electric guitarists are working in country not rock. I have seen many rock guys get up at a jam and have their asses kicked by a 45 year old country guy with a telecaster and a Fender Deluxe. I hve seen lots of country guys roll in to shred rock playing...never seen the reverse. Country is f'n hard

Ill agree with that. Im just saying that he probably could if given time. I dont think Dime cared much for even really giving country music an honest attempt. Lets be real here.

The contests he won were rock guitar challenges...and he was a king at that. One of the best ever. He wasnt, however, very versatile.

As long as it was a Buckethead song that didnt use bucketheads strange arpeggion patterns or playing through complex chord changes then DIme could probably do just fine. Dime played really well, picked cleanly and had some cool note choices but he didnt have the theoretical or technical background to pull off really complex music. He was a metal guy, very straight ahead player. I have heard Dime's take on country guitar, it is comedic at best and pathetic at worst.

yeah, given enough time I totally believe it. Obviously, humans arent robots, they would have to go through it and figure out the notes. But technically, they could do it I have no doubt.

When Dimebag was younger he won a yearly guitar competition they held in dallas every year. He won it so much that they eventually ask him to not compete so others could win it. Yes, he was metal, but that doesnt mean the guy wasnt good enough to hear just about anything and replicate it. Im sorry, but if Pantera wanted to cover something Buckethead wrote, Dimebag could do it and vice versa. Among others.

Im talking professional in the fact that they know their guitar inside and out. They know all scales, rock, blues, etc... They know harmonics, chords, and most of all they have an ear for music and sound. In that, they can hear something and replicate it. The dexterity of their fingers is such that they shouldnt have problem pulling just about anything off given time.

A professional player is one that gets payed to play music, it is their living. Tom Delonge is a professional player, as is Benji Madden. By your stance they should both be able to play whatever they come across....truth is neither of those guys play very well. |
