LBJ did more than just borrow from SS, He moved it from the Trust fund that FDR originally placed it in, to the General fund so the Demolishercrats could spend the Surplus. It was never supposed to have been touched except to pay out benefits to those who become of age. Good Ole Jimmy Carter thought Immigrants who payed nothing in should draw from it. Under Bill Clinton, they started taxing the benefits, taxing money that has already been taxed? What a concept!

Both Republicans and Democrats have been buying our votes with borrowed money for a long time. No member of congress talks honestly about the real Social Security problem - which is treating the Social Security trust fund as if it is free money that can be borrowed and not paid back. With this borrowed money, Republicans get their tax cuts, and Democrats get a little social spending, and both sides get reelected.

I thought the same thing. Privatizing social security just means they want to invest it. Black Monday proves it IS NOT a good idea. And how come the government has money to bailout these rich, huge companies but nothing for the homeowners losing their homes?
