one cant judge cross winds till the last 30 to 40 meters due to what is called ground efect ( wind being broken by buildings towers and land ect )by that time you are commited take in to account spool up time for the turbines and i would take the pilot out to dinner well done girl you did well if you as passangers think its bad try it up front try wellington airport new zealand every landing is like that

yes of course he would get permission although definitely not from GROUND but as you would know if you were a pilot, everything is YOUR responsibility, if you are cleared to land its your job to make sure its safe

This was on the news in Germany, and it was said that ground control gave permission to land and told that crosswinds would´nt be too bad.
And by the way, the pilot was a younger woman.
