Thank You Ichkeria, this is very helpful information! I may try retuning my Prima Balalaika to experiment first. My Balalaika has three strings, the first string is A (metal), and the other two strings are both E (nylon), and the neck is similar in size. I'll try dropping the third string to D. The tone will likely be different with the Balalaika's larger body and mixed string materials, but it should give me a rough idea. Again, Thank You!

i can give u infos u want as i can.. first A second E 3rd D & theirs two major tone, ur left thumb stays on the 2nd frit on the D string which is the 3rd string and you play long on the first string (A) . then the second major tone you pull off you thumb and play on the second string which is the E string . so you get the Caucasian mood .
like if you wanna sing on guitar
use chords as staring E you can use A chord or sing on these 2 chords and the second major will be then D chords

Can anyone tell me what notes the instrument in this video is tuned to? I'd like to build one, but I have little information to go by. This seems to be an instrument in the Pandura family, probably the Pondar, but I really don't know for sure. Wiki says it's either a EBA or GAC tuning. But which tuning is used here? Great plying in this video, the percussion tapping is well done too!

Does anybody know the translation of this: Duhur dac. Dölhur dac. Dütur dac. Should have something to do with Chechen independence I think. Thanks in advance.
