But I guess cause everyone around him placed the influence and the backing of the powerful media applied that idea as if he was trying to put Micheal down. I'm not sure if he even heard Ians actual words. I mean in plain words he did say he would be happy if Micheal broke the record and that he would enjoy to. How the hell can you take that and make that a negative. He was just saying he was doubtful thats all not like he didn't support his efforts.

No man you got it all wrong Ian didn't mean it to be negative in any sence. The god damn media tried to take his comments and make them mean it as if he was jealous and/or trying to down Phelps skills. Thorpe said he didn't think it was possible given the circumstances but that he would be happy if Phelps did it and that he wold be happy to watch him achieve it. He didn't think it would come true but he supported the guy atleast. To bad that even Phelps took this the wrong way.
