Mr. Jordan played in Ann Arbor years ago. At one point he stood and just jammed, solo, for ten or fifteen minutes. Nothing prepared, just bits of tunes, quotes, and cross-rhythm bridges to change time signatures. No mugging, no preening, no posturing: just a firestorm of music. The Montreal date shows that he can do a brilliant polished performance, but I'll never forget the sheer ecstatic power of that Ann Arbor show.

Stanley Jordan was at the UWEC jazz fest in spring of 2007 and he was phenomenal but he was kind of an ass in person, VERY picky about anything and everything we tried to do for him while he was here. Dave Weckl this year was also kind of like that, but we had Benny Golson along side of him so that made up for it.
