That's like saying your porsche is better than a datsun. They are both cars, but you pay a lot more for the second one. You can get a D3 and a backup body for about the same price as one 1ds mk3. It's nice to have the choice.

I'm just gonna put this out there... I love Canon AND Nikon.. equally. But the Nikon D3 easily outperforms the 1Ds Mk3... better ISO control and sensor performance

Clearly you don't have a clue either. Canon EF lenses were introduced in 1987 with the first EOS cameras and were compatible with only those EOS cameras. Canon's previous line (the T50/T70/T90) used the older FD lenses that were also used by the cameras of the 1970s (ala A1, AE1 ...) .
