No, theres no cost at all.... it connects directly to the satellite.. its not like a mobile phone that you have to pay credit from your phone in order to use the gps capabilities.

Does anyone know if there are any monthly payments or anything on GPS devices?

Buy a Garmin Nuvi 270, it comes with Europe and the USA maps.
Poland is covered, and other major cities in Eastern Europe.

Another question I have pertains to the maps. I do travel between North America and Europe, and with my car (see my vids) at that. How region-specific are the units and how feasible is it to localize? Can I have the US and EU maps loaded simultaneously?
Similarly, for how far east can I count on map data? Poland? Thanks so much.

Thanks for the reply. I'm thinking more when the sun shines on the screen. (For instance, my iPod is good in the sun, but I can hardly see anything in broad daylight on the iBook.) I wouldn't want to be constantly cupping my hand over the display and leaning in... |
