British drill maintains that the left hand goes over the buttstock. I have seen the handle held when firing from the assault position and the gun is supported with the sling over the shoulder. The handle can be set out to the left at a 90 degree angle and locked in position. The problem is changing the mag while running !! Great gun, both in .303 and 7.62 configurations, reliable and bloody accurate. And yes you can use L1A1 mags in an L4 series Bren.

I have used the 30 round LMG mags on the 7.62mm British Army rifle (SLR) with no problems and in the most of horrible winter conditions.

nbenicewlcz. The FAl mag of 20 rounds when we were kids our instructors asked us to not pack more then 17 rounds for it weakened the springs in them. When we got to fire the Bren somone tried to interchange magazines with a FN and it did not match. The Fal had a unique feature. No 2 breachblocks were interchangable so no one could swap that signature part. The most i had ever seen was the 20 round mag for the FN thats a bit of weight 20R x 3 mags, 10lbs of riffle with 30 lbs of ammo plus.

Yes,a 30 [28 normal practise] round mag will work in the fn fal or slr in my case,never had any problems with the spring or jamming if you make sure not to fill more than 28 rounds

Have you seen 30rnd FAL magazines and would they work in the L4 Bren?

Im sure LMG, L4, mag would house in the FN FAL, but the LMG is a 50 round gravity fed magazine with a weaker W spring, as gravity helps it fall to the reciever. The FN FAL has a 20 round mag with a strong spring as the rounds have to work against gravity, I wouldnt recommend the swap in combat situation, unless you plan on firing the FN FAL upsidedown : - ) LMG : Light machine gun.

nice one. to previous comments - ZB26 and ZB30 (and BESA too) are Czech. BREN (BRno ENfield) is English franchised(bought from Czechs) product.customised for their ,303ammo and 30 rounds magazine. well i wouldn't dare to compare them to mg42
