The popping is a fault with the camera, it will happen above water too, there is a firmware fix for this camera which helps. I have one, its a great camera, def worth the price

That's normal, noise travels and sounds different underwater.
But even if it had major disadvantages (I don't think it has any except the cost) this camera is still the top dog purly due to it's strength and durability.
If I had the money right now I'd buy one.
