"HOEZO?" by Bas Andriessen/FRAGM
FRAGM's music isn't jazz of course, but probably one could call it punkjazz or something like that (I guess). This Bas Andriessen composition is one of the most obvious examples of that 'idiom': it's a noisy, rough, uncompromising instrumental that aims to seek ... eh... beauty in dirt maybe? What is this? Planned anarchy? Organised chaos?
No traditional musical rules are followed here, just it's own rules. They don't even try to play it subtle....how can they with these notes (which are almost all written out, as a matter of fact)?
The only thing that can be said of "Hoezo?" with certainty is that you hate it or you like it: there is no inbetween. You are forced to take position.
Played on may 23, 1997.
FRAGM is Harrie van den Vorstenbosch ten sax, Gerard van der Kamp alto sax, Ton Janssen trombone, Thomas Calis drums, Rob Pechler bassguitar and Bas Andriessen guitar.
