give them enough room and they'll hit 220mph. they have the ability to go much faster. but the downforce they create to be able to corner so extremly, hampers their top speed quite a bit.

That's a very open-ended question in that F1 regulations, not to mention practicality (straight-line vs. track), play a huge role in determining their performance. These aren't designed to be top speed cars..but..
Currently, under 2006 F1 regulations, the 2.4L naturally aspirated V8 can reach a top speed of 415 km/h (258 mph) - recorded in the Mojave desert with minimum down force. On Monza, top speeds can reach 220mph.

depends on the setting of the spoiler... f1 cars are not made for having high top speed, they are made for high cornerspeed and acceleration. top speed with completly flat spoilers is about 385 (kph!)
