If you think that moving or turning a sailing line ship of thet era with three masts and a dozillion ropes is simple, then dont waste more time here, you can go straight to design quad core CPU's with just a pencil and a piece of paper and become rich. Also study rates of fire from trained crews, Vs a mix of sailors with infantry gunners and forced recruited mobs from cadiz taverns. Then go for the state of the wind and the famous Villenueve gloryously timed 180º fleet turn.

Not being funny but how much training do you need to pull up alongside another ship and fire your cannons wildly? Superior numbers of course, I haven't studied this subject in enough detail to tell you the condition of the spanish navy, all I know is they were renowned on the high seas at that time and even with superior numbers they were defeated.
