A traditional New Orleans Jazz Funeral for the late tuba player Kerwin James. He died in Oct. 2007. Alot of viewers have been asking whats the reason for rocking the casket, it's so he can dance one last time. I also have a Mardi Gras Black Indian Funeral video on here too. I must WARN you it is'nt your "typical" funeral. For more videos, pics and New Orleans unique culture check out my myspace page at www.myspace.com/onenawlins

I have been a Funeal Director in the midwest for 23 years. I wish before I take "my last ride" that I get to witness a ceremony such as this. This has to be the most dignified and wonderful celebration I have ever witnessed !

Coolest thing ever. That's how I wanna go out. No tears allowed at my funeral! Thanks for sharing!

the umbrella is traditional in second lines, it's only black in this case becuase it's a funeral. A jazz funeral is most common among african americans, but i've seen it done with other races...it's a new orleans tradition, where we believe in celebrating a life, not mourning a loss. and yes, it is considered the "last dance" for an individual. it is truly an uplifiting experience...

this is just one reason why i love my home..coming together to rejoice in a time of sadness...celebrating a life lived instead of mourning it...we had a trad. jazz funeral and second line for my brother in law yesterday..he truly went out with as much love and excitement as he came in with..
