I have been a Funeal Director in the midwest for 23 years. I wish before I take "my last ride" that I get to witness a ceremony such as this. This has to be the most dignified and wonderful celebration I have ever witnessed !

Coolest thing ever. That's how I wanna go out. No tears allowed at my funeral! Thanks for sharing!

the umbrella is traditional in second lines, it's only black in this case becuase it's a funeral. A jazz funeral is most common among african americans, but i've seen it done with other races...it's a new orleans tradition, where we believe in celebrating a life, not mourning a loss. and yes, it is considered the "last dance" for an individual. it is truly an uplifiting experience...

this is just one reason why i love my home..coming together to rejoice in a time of sadness...celebrating a life lived instead of mourning it...we had a trad. jazz funeral and second line for my brother in law yesterday..he truly went out with as much love and excitement as he came in with.. |
