All right, thank you. I guess I shouldn't make provocative comments without sufficient knowledge of the sport. Still, what is achieved by fighting in a hockey game? How is it a strategy? Is the point to try and make the other team scared of the "bully" in your own team?

Fighting is a strategic part of a hockey game (at least in the North American system). If both guys "go", there's almost always a discussion before hand. When the fight is over, it's over. It's not an attack, but a part of the game. If the other guy doesn't fight back, it's a 2 minute roughing minor. If he does, it's an offsetting 5 minute penalty.

I don't consider two people squaring off 'assault'.... I consider assault,,, a sucker punch... otherwise everybody who faught in the UFC or in a boxing ring would be arrested after they got through. I love fights. Can't help it.
