JJ Cale is a fantastic songwriter, but Lay Down Sally was written by Clapton, Marcy Levy (AKA Marcella Detroit) and George Terry. Terry and Levy are former Clapton band members.

Eric Clapton is a better musician and performer, but JJ Cale is a better songwriter. "Cocaine", "After Midnight", "Lay Down Sally"; Clapton's three best songs are all written by Cale, not to mention "Call Me the Breeze". The album should have been Eric Clapton performing songs written by Cale, having Cale play was pointless

Can you imagine what JJ thought when EC asked him to do an album with him? JJ must have thought he died and gone to heaven. On the road to escondido is a really great album, good work JJ.
