wow this was absolutely hilarious haha =] i'm american and i completely understood the half thing...i'm embarrassed by my fellow americans =/ i hate stupid people as well! you are so right about the new york subways! you're screwed if you're halfway in/out!

I actually thought that "half ten" meant 9:30 because I'm German and here it is like that. It's actually kinda stupid. When we say "halb zehn/"half ten" we mean something like "half of the tenth hour of the day is gone" (I think), so that's pretty strange... I think it makes more sense to use "half ten" as "half past ten" like you do in English.

alex, you are my favourite. I absolutely hate ridiculous, rhetorical instructions/"helpful" comments that make no sense, and have no point. "You may hang up..." - Thanks for you permission, disembodied phone voice! What would I have done without you? Sat with the phone to my ear for centuries, no doubt. Gaaaahhhhh. :)

one of my favorites!!! oh and i noticed that you have very good vocabulary. Stupid Americans lol Im amarican and even i knew half meant 30. Anyone who took spanish class and paid attention would know that because its the same in Spain.
