At Seventeen was a hit when I was a totally miserable teenager, & after all these years it still makes me cry. Thank you, Janis, for your beautiful & poingnant song.

If Janis Ian was considered unattractive at seventeen then that just shows what society is like toward the people who aren't skinny and popular. I just watched the video of her at sixteen performing Society's Child and I see nothing even remotely ugly about her. She is a pretty and talented woman.

sad song.

I dated a chick that said this song was about here. Those were some happy times. By the time I broke up with her I needed therapy and valium. This is a wrist slasher.

Okay, I'll try that out. I'll try to bring some sunshine into someone's life in this dreadful, gloomy climate in Oregon which isn't worth a half an onion.

I believe it was El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Homer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer), one of the most epic and deep episodes ever, the newer ones are nothing compared to the golden years of The Simpsons.

"Fat slobs"? No, this is not compassion, Cobalt. Did your life improve because people came up to you and said "Stop being a skinny, pimply nerd"? Probably not. You might try something like "Hi. You're looking happy today." Or "Hi. You seem tired. Can I carry that parcel for you?" Or maybe even just "Hi."

Shas: I'm not really hurting them. I'm trying to help them gain some self-respect. Besides, most of the fat slobs are women. P.S. Back when I was seventeen, I was also an atheist which made it even worse. And I was attending a Catholic school at that time.

Huh? You remember the pain of being unaccepted yet you delight in hurting others? May you find healing, cobalt

I heard this on the Simpsons one night when I was watching it with my brother. It was playing during a scene with Homer walking alone at night, sad and lonely (i don't remember why, or what the episode was about). Anyway, I'm 18 and I hadn't heard this song before. They only played the beginning, but I got so teary-eyed I discreetly left the room. That's never happened before. Thank you, Janis, wherever you are.
