The VLA is built right on top of the old saucer crash of 1947. The visitors look to see where the ship crashed and find the VLA instead. The visitors send a signal looking for the lost shuttle. Take a wild guess what happens when they come looking for the crew? Just stand out of the way and let the human race slowly wake up. They are coming. When they do get here you won't have to ask. You'll see them in the sky clear as the sun and you'll do anything they ask without choice. Relax I'm kidding.

The "wow signal" could be proof that there is a parallel Earth in the Sagittarius constellation that's home to a post-industrial civilization just like ours here in the year 2008. As for why the signal never showed up again, it could mean that (1) they had their nuclear war between 1977 and now (2) their version of SETI hasn't scanned our part of space since 1977 or (3) funding to their SETI program was cut off sometime between then and now. Who knows?
