Yeah, but what if the person stole the computer, and he just needs to turn it off so he doesn't get caught or something, so he just hangs the phone up as soon as you help him??

i have heard about how dell sucks. one of my uncles works at one of them. poor guy.
dont blame the customer. but whoa...talk about angry..... i probably would be just as furious as he if i got a crappy computer like that.

At least tell the customer to do Start, shutdown. Maybe it is as simple as that. If troubleshooting doesn't work, then get the account info and look if there is warranty, etc.
I work at a call center and sometimes I skip identifying customer if the issue is too simple.
