I have no problem with Waffle Boy spreading whatever message he desires, provided it does not incite vioence, libel or slander non-public figures, etc. I also believe that cracking down with the Building Code was not a good idea. While legal, it gave Waffle Boy more publicity, the Sanctuary sympathy, and was a poor political tactic, and the TIMING gives me some First Amendment concerns.

I would also like to comment on your comment about my fairness. I don't think its my position to raise up Wafaa Bilal as some kind of art martyr, and actually my opinion of the art work is irrelevant. Free speech is not always pretty. I have strong views and am not thrilled to hear opposite views every night on TV, across the internet and on the streets (a guy with a Nazi tatoo walked by me the other day here in upstate NY). As Don Rumsfeld says, democracies are messy. We have to deal with it.

Fair enough. Dog or iraqi waterboarding of course is insane. It's meant to shock the audience with the horrific suggestion of torturing an animal, which then makes the audience think about the reality of torturing a human.

Glad you decided to jump in. First, I wanted to congratuate you for making reasonably objective videos with both sides of the issue. While you were not bias-free, you did a much better job than the drive-by media. I must confess that while I am quite intelligent, I am a redneck, which means by definition, I have a glorious lack of sophistication. The irony does escape me.

Good point, Cris. Very few people are capable of understanding the nuances of NASCAR, and even fewer have knowledge of military science. After all, to properly understand the development of a NASCAR race, a good grasp of aerodynamics, material science, and automotive engineering is essential. Perhaps that explains why so few liberals are NASCAR fans, the sport is simply too complex for fine arts and poly sci majors to begin to comprehend. |
