The problem is that the US never should have gone into Iraq in the first place, and because it was wrong for them to go in, they have an obligation to fix what they broke.
Additionally, if you go in and remove the current regime of a country and back out, you're basically just setting the country up for civil war and becoming a haven for warlords and various factions vying for power and fighting one another. If the US had just gotten Saddam and done nothing else, Iraq would've fallen apart.
