The only person who was nice to you was this other american, and that's simply because most Europeans don't like americans. Makes sense, doesn't it? Why should we be nice to people we don't like? I personally consider it an insult every time I hear of an american visiting Europe, and I guess that's the way most other Europeans feel aswell.

Don't stereotype, dude. Where you come from does NOT mean you will have no taste or judgement in art. I've been all across Europe and let me tell you, people there are genuine dicks. Yes, I'm generalizing, but sadly the nicest person I met was a man working in a leather store in Florence who was originally from Boston.
