aclem2004...Thanks for replying James Burton is one of the greatest guitar players of all time.
About 5 years ago I worked with John Daulton who has been with the Kinks since 66{If you watch the video of Lola he is the one with the beard on Bass}and he said they toured the States in the early 70s and they went to an Elvis concert but he went just to say he had seen James Burton and he was fantastic because he would often do a solo.

If you're talking about the Roy Orbison concert, I thought Springsteen was an ass, shamelessly hamming it up and drowning out James Burton. As a guitar player, Springsteen has no business trading 8s with James Burton.

You can't change documented historical facts and dates....Ricky Nelson was the one early rock n roller who made rock and roll more accessible to mainstream 50's kids, whose parents disliked the "lurchy", carnal Elvis....buy it.....you'll sleep better:-)

Kenwood3865...are you sure?
Do your homework, for starters the first R.I.A.A. gold award was for Elvis's Hard Headed Woman which means either parents were already buying Elvis or giving the kids the money to do so because they didn't mind.
Ricky Nelson couldn't hold a candle to Elvis, not even then

He was and he outplayed Bruce Springsteen when they played together live and Springsteen knew it.

"Better musician"? Who are you to judge? As a guy who spent more than a little time in front of a band both with and without a stringed instrument in my hands, I can tell you that it's nearly impossible to do both at once at your highest level. Very often, lead guitar and bass parts are playing a counter-rythym to the vocal line. The rythym guitar part most frequently follows the vocal rythym, which is why you see so many lead singers playing rythym guitar. |
