I would stick strictly to snowboard wax. Snowboard wax (and/or ski wax) is specifically engineered and tested to provide the best results for snowboarding. Good brands that I would recommend are Swix, Perl, and Bluebird.
As for what season of wax to get. Unless youre super serious, go with "all weather", works fine regardless if its warm or cold or whatever outside. If you need any help, msg me with your questions.
