I think they both dressed like pirate by 1987; at least, Running Wild was song-writing about Pirates in 1987 Under Jolly Roger album, so Stormwitch could not copy them, they were doing the same at the same time. In fact, Yngwie Malmsteen dressed in XVIII century style by 1984...

funny fact:
On the 1987 ablum the beauty and the beast the song tigers of the sea song, Running wild complained that stormwitch was copying their pirate theme but as you know stormwitch already had this song that had to do with pirates which was made way before running wild got their pirate image!
