Young Holt Unlimited - Soulful Strut They did record some stylish and funky records (sometimes both at the same time), including their 1968 mega hit 'Soulful Strut' (aka the instrumental bed from Barbara Acklin's 'Am I the Same Girl') which is probably -- along with 'Green Onions' -- one of the best known soul instrumentals ever.

Quite possibly the best instrumental to come out of the 60's.

Are you a musician? And if so, how many years have you been playing.

Is it me or is that pianee out of tune? Or is it suppoosed to sound like it is? Maybe the song would not have that certain thang if it was in perfect tune, aye? Good ol jazzy stuff.

I was born the year this was released and I still play it out regularly live. It is a great great tune. Check out pianist Hyear Don Walker's solo stuff (1970?-1972) Thanks for posting.

This is an awesome song - that statement (and this comment) coming from someone born 20 years AFTER the song was made... just goes to show you that nothing beats the classics!

eyescandeceive ~ I'm sorry for your tears but at least we still have these memories. And remember that if you are circumspect aaaand willing...there are many more good memories yet to come and to be shared with decent people. I was 8teen in `68 when this hit the radio and at my 40th HS Reunion a fortnight since I was 8teen again when the DG played this jam! Smile, baby and let someone love ya...

This is when we had real music with real musicians not the overproduced electronic crap that comes out today.
