tj, my old friend, lol. Would you agree that most of people think that baptism washes away our sins. Yes it does, it is necessary becuz the bible also says that through baptism, we connect ourselves with his death, burial, and resurrection. Our Death(repentance), our burial(baptism in Jesus name) and our resurrection(recieving the gift of the Holy Ghost). So it is all that however the bible says cannot enter heaven without water and the Spirit, yet water b-ing water baptism n Jesus name.

No one Bible verse saves anyone. If that was the case then we would have no need for the entire bible. Jesus saves us, no doubt. Acts 2:38 is a part of the whole picture. If baptism is putting on Christ then if we are not then . . . don't we need to be covered or clothed with Christ? I think that if the Bible ( 1 Peter 3:20-21) says baptism saves us we shouldn't fight or argue. If we are in Christ when we are baptized then why not just be in Christ, get baptized.

Because if Acts 2:38 saved us then there would be no reason for Jesus to die. Acts 2:38 is necessary because it is what we do as a response to being called by God. He chooses us and pricks us Acts 2:37 (not the other way) and we respond by repent (stripping our wills) and being baptized in His name (putting on Christ). We receive the Holy Spirit immediately after this.
God saved us, not our actions.
