yes i remember reading that way back in the 70s that his manager was looking for a name that would stick in the mind of people,he came up with gilbert and sullivan,2 very famous writers of operettas such as the mikado.he just took the "and" out then replaced it with an "o" hey presto it still sounded irish and you had a feeling you knew his name from somewhere!
