i hated the fact that they changed my favourite and best fighter BIRDIE from the first game to a black version in alpha. it's not a racial point as i would say the same about my other favourite dee-jay if they turned him white.
it was a pointless change and the punks going back to 1970's in england have always been white, so as for this story about him being ill is a pathetic excuse from capcom to ruin the best character, changing that much colour when ill,...only micheal jackson can do that.

good observation! the capcom people fashioned the story by later saying that Birdie had always been Black but he was suffering from an illness at the time and therefore explaining his absence in later episodes of the game.

i remember when this machine first appeared in our local arcade, early'88 and had 6 buttons for each player,...scared the hell otta me the thought of learning how to play it. everyone i watched just could not get past MIKE, then one guy selected ENGLAND by mistake and the moment i clapped my eyes on that monster bad-ass punk BIRDIE i was hooked, i'd never seen such a big beat'em up character in my life. But the best thing is i own the arcade machine and it's in my bedroom :-) yipeeeeeee!!!!!
