It's a light lens, so it shouldn't have caused much damage to itself - or your table! But take some photos and see if you think it's been damaged. Maybe take it into a shop and see what they think, and comopare it to a new version of the lens. And also feel free to ask in the Olympus section of the Cameralabs forum.

i got the camera today.... but i dropped the lens from about 7 inches onto a table, do you think the lens is alright?

There's no catch - Olympus offers some very good discounts on its DSLRs, and the updated E-420 model is now available. See our review at cameralabs . com for the differences.

Thanks for that, Gordon. I was just curious.
I actually purchased the D40 a month ago and am VERY happy with it... but I can't stop myself "fancying" the E-410 as it really does seem fantastic value for money (as well as being a lovely-looking camera (blame nostalgia as well: I'll always have a soft spot for Olympus...!)
P.S. Yep, checked the E-420 review earlier today. Excellent, as always! :-)

There's a lot of features to compare, but the E-410 has higher resolution and Live View. I'd also habdle both in person - feel free to discuss this further on the cameralabs forums - and be sure to check out our brand new E-420 review!

I enjoy watching these reviews, Gordon, and think the 410 is a beautiful camera (my first ever SLR was an Olympus OM10 in the 80s). But, cards on the table: the Olympus E-410 or the Nikon D40? (or must you remain impartial?). And, out of interest, what camera/s do you own, Gordon??

Hi, well we haven't posted a review of the E420 yet so I can't comment, but feel free to ask on the cameralabs forums!
