A Mel Gibson film, one of my favourate films, and I love the music very much,so,I made this. The Patriot tells the story of Benjamin Martin (Mel Gibson), a widowed father of seven children, as he tries to keep his family together during the Revolutionary War. He had fought in the French and Indian War, since married and started a family. He has tried to put his actions in that war behind him, but still carries some guilt and regret from those actions. He fears that his past will come back to haunt him. When war breaks out, his eldest son Gabriel (Heath Ledger) joins the fight against his wishes. Benjamin soon ends up reluctantly joining the fight as well. His successfully leads a militia band against the British until Colonel William Tavington (Jason Isaacs) is ordered to do everything he can to capture or kill Martin and his South Carolina militia.

But when they add based on a true stroy americans are stupid enough to take it as true history.

it's funny about how much historical inaccuracies there are in this film 1. only about 1/3 of americans supported the war effort. the 2/3 of americans either did not care or were loyalists. 2. Many slaves actually supported the British and native americans supported the British as well. 3. The British did not commit those atrocities depicted in the film. It is a complete exaggeration of the war.

I don't know what would movies be without John Williams. Scores are meant to fit the screen, but JW always goes well beyond that, and that's why most of his scores are so epic. I don't know about you, but IMHO movie scores are starting to suck just like the rest of the music industry. They fit the screen, and that's it.. No one writes something memorable, something that will be remembered for years. Just my thoughts.

It would be nice if some Americans, Brits and other anti-Brit/Americans could open a few history books (not just one) and read before posting their oppinionated views on here. I have read 5 books on things directly or indirectly related to this and, coupled with Americans habit of skewing history in their films (U-571 being a brilliant example) I'd say this is a good film but nothing more. there is being flexible with historical events and then simply rewriting history, which is here.
