I know this because both of the Montreux shows that Stevie did are on DVD (find em on Amazon) and the booklet that comes with the DVD has the Montreux story in it.
The crowd only booed him early on during his first appearance there. And both shows are on the DVD, you can see it.

The Montreux show is typically a jazz festival. The first time Stevie appeared there he was still relatively unknown. So the crowd saw this young kid jump on stage looking like Jimi Hendrix.
When he started playing it came off as rock n roll, before he really got into his set. The crowd booed for a little while until they heard more.
During his next show at Montreux, not only was the crowd more familiar with him but he was more renowned in general. In this show he was well received.

Montreux 82. The booing was very loud, acctually.

Are there movies of that concert at Montreux? On the Internet?

This wasn't the Montreux show he was booed at. That show was a couple of years earlier before Texas Flood the album came out, and the Euros thought Stevie was like a loud caricature of a bluesman, they only accepted black blues artists until Stevie became an international hit, instantaneously changing European opinion.. That Montreux show where he was booed, he was wearing a blue kimono type shirt with black fedora hat..

I can only find three reasons to do it (booing):
1.- You don't like blues
2.- You don't like SRV
3.- You're stupid
I guess the third is the right one |
