Then why watch it? I guess many of people didn't think Popeye wasn't too bad because he's been out since the 1920s, and Oyl has been out a bit longer.
I do admit Olive is a bit annoying, but that is how she was meant to be and that's why a lot of people love her.

A few years before it was made; before Robin Williams was name, I heard they were considering Lily Tomlin as Olive. (Dustin Hoffman as Popeye.) Althoug the characterizations were good I was disappointed with the music. I felt Harry Nilsson "mailed it in". I thought Jules Feiffer who wrote it should have known better being a cartoonist.

He was. Though, Shelley Duvall was the only actress they considered for Olive.
