I have also pondered on the universe as a recycling machine where matter bubbles from the center and all matter in converted to energy at the edge just before reaching a massive event horizon where then all energy is returned to the center to bubble out again. We cannot explain why galaxies continue to accelerate apart the further out we get. The universe would never had a start or an end. We try to describe the universe as if it is like us with a beginning and an end. maybe it's infinite.

I want to give a perspective that is unique and one I have pondered for sometime. We see the world by a very narrow perspective so this may seem mind boggling. What if I am the same consciousness but replayed through every intelligent being throughout time and space, an infinite life. I will eventually be you and you may have already been me? or vice versa. Then treat your neighbors with respect and dignity takes on a whole new meaning. Bad acts to others would come back to you, literally!

Blessed is he who devours the void. If you are any thing in perception, then you are all things. And no-thing. Death cannot consume what has never been born.

I agree that God doesnt want us to know the outcome. After all, if you were waiting in line for Empire Strikes Back, would you want to know that DV was LS' father? No chance.

As an agnostic open to the ideas of deism, here's a thought: If there is a God, and there is some existence after death, perhaps its a testament to God's wisdom that he/she/it/they didn't endow us with knowledge of the specifics. If we knew what followed death, we would likely cease to value life.

for me there is no fear of death, i kno when we die there in no hell, but there is hope for all, and that is called reincarnation.

"I acknowledge that this is not a solid proof. There's much about self-awareness that we don't yet understand." Which is why I'm not directly debating that idea, I just take exception to the idea of CoE applying to the specifics of our nature rather than the physical parts that make up our bodies. I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just pointing out that the law doesn't say anything about what you're saying. That being said, it be nice if you were right...

QUOTE: "I'm a bit disappointed that you invoked conservation of energy to possibly support an afterlife of some sort." It's more the concept of the CoE and CoM, that nothing comes into or out of existence but rather things change form over time. We see these cycles all around us in nature. I acknowledge that this is not a solid proof. There's much about self-awareness that we don't yet understand.

Mmm...I really like most of your work, you're a very rational and thorough person when it comes to examining belief. But, I must say, I'm a bit disappointed that you invoked conservation of energy to possibly support an afterlife of some sort. While we do not know exactly how consciousness comes about, I have yet to see anything lending credence to the idea that it is anything but the action of our physical brain. CoE states that all the energy in our bodies will go on...nothing about us.
