Professor Salman H. Abu-Sitta of the London-based Palestine Land Society gives a personal account of how he became a refugee in Palestine in 1948. Using data from his research, Abu-Sitta shows how over 600 Palestinian villages were systematically depopulated by the advancing Israeli forces, leaving many others dismembered by an arbitrary cease-fire line. With maps and demographic statistics, Abu-Sitta shows that, in effect, Zoinist policies were an ethnic cleasing campaign that resulted in a massive transfer of native Palestinians to the countries bordering Israel, where thousands remain within 100 miles from their original communities. If you believe his "facts", you should also believe that 9/11 was engineered by CIA. As to"..will ever be accepted by the Palestinians...".. Well, they lived in the squalid camps built for them by their Arab brethren for 61 years, and will continue to do so. Good luck!

Avi why does it matter how people were made into refugees? That doesn't make it illegal for them to return to there homes. Jews and Arabs have much in common part of the reason the European Zionists choose Palestine as a homeland for Jews was because Arabs and Jews are related to one another. More related then they are to European or Asian or African peoples.

A research report by the Arab-sponsored Institute for Palestine Studies concluded that the majority of the Arab refugees were not expelled and 68% of them "left without seeing an Israeli soldier."

"The Arab armies entered Palestine to protect the Palestinians from the Zionist tyranny but, instead, they abandoned them, forced them to emigrate and to leave their homeland, and threw them into prisons similar to the ghettos in which the Jews used to live." — Palestinian Authority (then) Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) (Falastin a-Thaura, (March 1976)

If you use common since you would have known that as in any conlict people live the areas that are in war. but if you insist. "Since 1948 we have been demanding the return of the refugees to their homes. But we ourselves are the ones who encouraged them to leave. Only a few months separated our call to them to leave and our appeal to the United Nations to resolve on their return" (The Memoirs of Haled al Azm, Beirut, 1973, Part 1, pp. 386-387).

I'd appreciate some links/evidence to these facts of Palestinians wishing to leave to avoid friendly fire, please as I'm not sure which area of my local library to check. Fiction or non-fiction?

I would STILL call it genocide - by stealth. Deliberate killing of babies & children still goes on. Most recent example I heard was watching a journalist interview a woman recovering in hospital after being shot in the shoulder. She was no longer a mother, as her 3 week old baby had a fatal bullet fired into its head from an IDF soldier in Gaza.
